About the Program
In this virtual artist talk, Par Nair will discuss her interdisciplinary art practice, which encompasses oil painting, hand embroidery, installation, and writing. Nair will share how her work seeks to collaborate with the women who came before her, while unraveling the cultural, historical, and personal narratives embedded in South Indian textiles and familial archives.
About the Artist
Par Nair (she/her) is an Indian born interdisciplinary artist and educator who lives and makes in the Greater Toronto Area, Canada. The primary focus of Nair’s art practice is to investigate and explore lived experiences of diaspora using decolonial methods and a return to ancestral practices through paintings, hand embroidery, installation, and creative writing. Nair acquired her Master’s (MFA) in Interdisciplinary Arts from OCAD University and has shown her works nationally and internationally. Notable showings include Rajiv Menon Contemporary (Los Angeles), Nuit Blanche, Art Museum at University of Toronto, Eastern Edge Gallery (St.Johns, NL), Craft Ontario, Xpace Cultural Centre, Mayten’s Gallery, Project Casa, The Textile Museum of Canada, Riverdale Art Gallery, Propeller Art Gallery, and The Kochi Biennale (India). Nair currently teaches drawing and painting at OCAD University.
