The Varley Art Gallery is shortlisted for a 2025 GOG Award

We are proud to share that the Varley Art Gallery’s 2024 Summer Exhibition, To go boldly, has been shortlisted for Exhibition Of The Year (Budget Over $20,000 Thematic)

Curated by Anik Glaude, To go boldly explored how contemporary artists draw from science fiction to confront the past, interpret the present, and imagine the future. Through this genre, the show examined complex social and cultural issues, ranging from racial justice and colonial violence to gender identity and ableism, while also considering the relationship between science fiction and popular culture.

The Galeries Ontario / Ontario Galleries (GOG) Awards celebrate the outstanding achievement, artistic merit, and excellence of arts institutions and professionals in the public art gallery sector. This year’s theme, Make Your Mark – Laissez Votre Marque, focuses on defending Canadian cultural sovereignty, and supporting the arts as a public good.
