Internship Details
This 4–6 month paid placement provides hands-on curatorial experience at the Varley Art Gallery of Markham. The successful candidate will receive mentorship from gallery staff, contribute to exhibition and collections research, and have the opportunity to develop an independent curatorial project.
Interns will gain insight into exhibition-making—from concept development and object research to interpretation and public engagement. The selected recipient will undertake a mutually agreed-upon project aligned with the Varley Art Gallery’smission and curatorial direction, ensuring their work contributes meaningfully to institutional priorities while supporting their own research interests. The scholarship emphasizes rigorous inquiry, creativity, and inclusive approaches to storytelling, encouraging participants to explore diverse perspectives and contribute to accessible and relevant cultural programming.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in a post-graduate program in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Museum Studies, Museum and Cultural Management, or a similar program
- Reside in Ontario, and be willing to travel to the Varley Art Gallery of Markham to execute duties as required
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
